All of us have ignored pain, and pushed ourselves. Maybe you’ve missed a step and twisted your ankle, but gone to work anyway.  Or, perhaps you have endured the pain of a blister while on vacation, so that you could see the sites. Foot pain is not normal, and should always be addressed right away. In the case of heel pain, ignoring the problem will cause more long-term misery.

Heel pain, often caused by an inflamed band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot (the plantar fascia), can quickly change from an annoyance to a debilitating condition. At first, you might just notice pain in the morning when your feet hit the floor. However, as this condition progresses, you will likely experience constant pain that makes walking difficult.

What happens to cause this increase in heel pain and decrease in mobility? As the ligaments pull on the heel, growth of bone is generated. This small protrusion, or spur continuously irritates the plantar fascia turning a temporary problem into a chronic foot condition.

If you’re suffering from heel pain, visit Abbott Foot and Ankle Clinic today to prevent long-term discomfort. Heel pain can resolve with rest. Stretching is also an important part of the process. Exercises such as towel stretches where you loop a towel around the balls of your feet, and gently pull the feet toward you, stretch the plantar fascia. Other treatment options are available depending on the severity of your condition.

How long have you been suffering from heel pain? Don’t let it go on another day. Call the office of Chiropodist Tony Abbott at (705) 444-9929, and make an appointment today. You can also schedule online.
