pain managementYour feet do a lot for you on a daily basis, so if they start to hurt, that means you should be doing a few things to take better care of them. At Abbott Foot & Ankle Clinic, we have a few foot pain management tips to offer that can not only relieve your discomfort, but also help you keep your feet in good shape.

  • Stay Flexible- As you get older, your calf muscles will start to tighten up, which can put additional stress on your heels. As part of your foot pain management plan, try to stretch out your calves every day. These can be as simple as standing on the edge of a step and slowly lowering your heels up and down.
  • Skip the High Heels- If you’re a woman, you might love high heels, but they can wreak havoc on your feet. Instead of pairing heels with your outfit, try going with a pair of flats, sandals, boots, or a lower kitten heels instead of a stiletto. Along these same lines, always wear shoes that fit your feet correctly. This means that your shoes should easily go on and off and that there is a little bit of room between your longest toe and the front of the shoe.

Put Your Feet Up- While we aren’t saying you should live a sedentary lifestyle, as part of your foot pain management plan, try not to stay on your feet for too long. At the end of the day, you should also plan on sitting with your feet elevated for at least a few minutes.
