Common Symptoms of Knee Arthritis
There are three types of knee arthritis that can occur in your lifetime, and it is possible to have more than one type at the same time. Osteoarthritis is a progressive type that can occur as you age. Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory type that can happen at any age. Lastly, an injury in your lifetime can lead to post-traumatic arthritis developing years later. Symptoms are similar with all three types, but treatment plans may vary.

Obviously, pain in your knee is a good indicator of knee arthritis. It can begin suddenly, but more commonly it develops slowly over time. What may begin as a dull pain when climbing stairs, kneeling, or switching from standing to sitting and vice versa can progress to pain that can wake you up or is intensified by changes in the weather.

Other than pain, knee arthritis symptoms include swelling, tenderness, buckling, locking, cracking or popping sounds, change in knee appearance, and decreased range of motion. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is best to seek help as soon as possible, as joint pain can be caused by other illnesses as well, such as lupus. In addition, the earlier treatment begins, the less your knee arthritis can interfere with your daily activities.
