Knee Arthritis

We all experience aches and pains in our body from time to time, especially if you live a healthy and active lifestyle. But how do you know when knee pain is a sign of knee arthritis?

The most common type of knee arthritis is known as osteoarthritis (OA). This is a progressive knee arthritis that wears away at the joint cartilage, and commonly occurs after middle age. The other two types of knee arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis, an inflammatory condition that can occur at any age, and post-traumatic arthritis, which can develop years after an injury to the knee.

Knee arthritis can creep up on you gradually, with pain in the knee that gets worse over time. You may notice swelling and tenderness from inflammation; if the skin on your knee appears red or warm to the touch, you may be experiencing inflammation from knee arthritis.

One of the most obvious signs of knee arthritis is a weakening of the knee, which may cause buckling. If you feel unstable on your knee, are hearing cracks or pops, or are experiencing discomfort in the joint that is preventing you from being able to straighten or bend your knee fully, we recommend you seek a professional assessment to determine if you have knee arthritis.
